Campbeltown Pupils were defeated 4-1 last Saturday despite a battling home performance against West of Scotland Football League Division Four hopefuls Thorn Athletic.
The McFadyens Transport-sponsored Pupils started the first half playing against a very strong wind at Kintyre Park, and were made to do a lot of defending, but stood up to their task relatively well, going in at the break 1-0 down.
There was early joy in the second half for the Feathers Inn-sponsored Pupils as some excellent work from Ryan Deans saw his low cutback eventually fall to midfielder Kyle Danson, who produced an excellent low finish into the bottom right-hand corner of the net on the turn.
Unfortunately, the Pupils were eventually worn down by their high-flying opponents, currently in second place in the league standings, who scored three quick-fire goals, one courtesy of an own goal and one by virtue of a deflection – the other from a very well worked move resulting in a composed low finish by Thorn’s number nine – and couldn’t find a response in the closing stages.
On Saturday the Pupils travel to take on Easterhouse AFA on league business. Kick off is 2pm.
