Highland Conservative Association members have chosen Ruraidh Stewart as their candidate for the new Westminster seat of Inverness, Skye and West Ross-Shire.
A councillor for Skye and Raasay, as well as leader of the Conservative Group in the Highland Council, Ruraidh lives on the family’s west coast croft.
Ruraidh also works for a Highlands and Islands MSP. This, plus his experience of council duties, he believes has given him a thorough understanding of local concerns and priorities.
Ruraidh said: “I am honoured to have been selected as the Highland Conservative candidate for the Inverness, Skye, and West Ross-Shire constituency.
“As someone who was born, raised and educated in the Highlands, I know many of the unique challenges and opportunities we face across this vast constituency. In the coming months, I will visit as many communities as possible to learn even more about residents’ needs and priorities.
“As a young Conservative I am committed to upholding traditional and Highland values but I also recognise much needs to be done to ensure a prosperous future for future generations.”
Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross MSP welcomed news of Ruraidh’s selection, adding: "I know Ruraidh well from his work on local issues as leader of the Conservative Highland councillors.
“Bursting with energy and enthusiasm, I have every confidence that he is ready to represent the Highlands at national level. I look forward to campaigning with Ruraidh during the forthcoming election.”
