Lamlash man David Copperwheat has completed a 56-mile run around the island while carrying 15 pounds of weight to raise funds for the mental health charity Young Minds Trust.
David’s huge effort has helped to raise £2,110 for the Young Minds charity with more than 101 supporters sponsoring him on his JustGiving page.
The fundraising initiative was a personal challenge for David who has run around the island before but not with the extra burden.
He says he was motivated to fundraise for the Young Minds Trust as it is a cause that is close to his heart following the loss of his friend Liam.
Speaking when he announced the challenge, David said: “This marks the beginning of a monumental journey. I have run this island once before, but now I’m taking on the challenge with added weight - both physical and emotional.
“Liam and I always dreamed of this moment and though he’s not here in person, his spirit fuels my determination. This run isn’t just about pushing my limits; it’s about breaking the silence that envelops too many young souls. I’m running for Young Minds, to shine a light on the support available and to raise funds for those who need it most. Together, let’s make a difference.”
Last Sunday, David packed 15 pounds of weights into a backpack and set off from Lamlash High School at 7am, running anti-clockwise around the island. Supporters and friends joined him along the way with other regular local runners accompanying him for the last part of his run which finished at the school at 8pm.
He said: “Well that’s me completed this epic challenge of running around Arran with an additional 15 pounds of weight.
"A massive thanks to everyone for their support and for those who joined me: Mike Mellor, Jack McNally, David Black, Alessio Wozza Brunasso Cassinino, Carter Chappell, Sean Higgins and Kathryn Ritchie. I wouldn’t have completed this if it wasn’t for all of you."
