Experience and youth proved to be a winning combination when Campbeltown Bowling Club hosted its annual R Leishman memorial rinks competition last Saturday.
A healthy entry of 15 teams played off during the day in three sections, with the teams of Matt McPhee, Johnnie McLean, Bobby Dalziel and Jimmy Anderson eventually progressing to the semi-finals, where there were convincing wins for Matt against Bobby and Johnnie against Jimmy.
The final saw Johnnie’s team – youngsters Ryan Mclachlan, Scot Mclachlan and Ryan Johnston, who is just 15 – take an early lead, scoring a three on the first end.
This was countered by a single from Matt’s team but another three count then gave Johnnie’s team a strong lead which they built on to retain the trophy for this year.
President Robert Coffield held the prize giving, thanking all committee members and helpers who worked to make the day a success, giving special mention to the visiting teams from the Argyll, Tarbert and Wellcroft, and the continuing excellent sponsorship from the Leishman family.
He then asked Allison Williamson to present the trophy and prizes to the winners on behalf of the family to conclude an excellent day.
