Arran Community and Voluntary Service’s (Arran CVS) Free For All event attracted a bumper crowd with families flocking to the event to enjoy family-friendly activities.
The aim of the event, held at Arran High School, was to give people the chance to learn about groups, organisations and businesses on the island and the services they offer.
Representatives from more than 40 businesses and groups on Arran hosted stalls offering information, advice and details about the services or products they offer. Organisations featured everything from medical provision and church groups to arts and dog clubs, among many others.
Arran CVS designed the event to be an informal showcase of the services and organisations available on Arran and for everything to be accessible at no charge. This allowed groups and businesses to offer taster sessions and samples of their products and services without visitors having to commit to anything before trying it.
In keeping with the free for all ethos, visitors were treated to a feast of food and soft drink options provided by community organisations, North Ayrshire Council and Arran CVS.
Children were equally well catered for with a wide choice of activities on offer. These included football, tennis, curling, face painting and events on the grass outside the school. Organisations and businesses also provided activities, competitions and sweets for the children at their stalls in the main hall.
An Arran CVS spokesperson said: “Huge thanks to all the participants and supporters of the Free For All event - too many to name. Your attendance was so valued and we hope organisations and attendees found it a mutually rewarding experience. The sun really shone for us which made it extra special. Thanks to the awesome Arran CVS team which made it happen and to KA Leisure for its help with setting up and putting away.”
Arran CVS is a charitable organisation that provides information and services to voluntary and community organisations on Arran. The Free For All event, now in its second year, is one of its largest public events.
