How great was it to see the Arran Show back this week?

The show has always been a celebration of all things farming on Arran, but this year it just seemed all the more special to see everyone meet up once again for the first time in three years.

The show works on many levels; for the farmers it is their chance to show their livestock and pick up one of more of the prestigious trophies contested by their fathers and their father’s father.

For locals there is a good chance of bumping into someone they have not seen for months – even years.

And for the visitors there is a chance to soak in the sights and sounds of country life, enjoy the entertainment, check out the many market stalls and, of course, grab a bite to eat.

But whatever you want out of the day it was great to see the crowds back at Glenkiln and even the weather was to prove kindly to the show.

Now we are all set for round two on Saturday with the return of Brodick Highland Games.

That event too is always a great family-friendly day and the sound of the bagpipes ringing out across the village from morning until evening makes it all the more special.
