A Fantastic Woman (Chile 2017 Cert 15)

Corrie Film Club’s June offering is an audacious and exquisitely compassionate film from Chile by Sebastian Lelio, A Fantastic Woman, which won the Oscar for best foreign language film in 2018.

Marina Vidal’s life is thrown into turmoil following the death of her partner Orlando and she is met with suspicion from the police and contempt from her lover’s relatives.

As tensions rise between her and Orlando’s family, she is evicted from their shared home and banned from attending his funeral, but faced with the threat of losing everything Marina finds the strength to fight back.

This film is a ground breaking, deeply humane story about a trans woman’s fight for acceptance and an urgent call for compassion.

See this film on Sunday June 19 in Corrie and Sannox Village Hall at 7.30pm. All welcome and bring a bottle to share if you wish.
