The Favourite, 2018, Certificate 15, 2 hours

Corrie Film Club’s choice for April is Academy Award and Oscar winner, The Favourite, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.

It is set in 18th century England in the reign of Queen Anne (played by Olivia Coleman who received an Oscar for best actress) who has become frail, partly as a result of the bearing of 18 children, none of whom survived.

Meanwhile, the power behind the throne is Lady Sarah Churchill, the Queen’s closest friend, who governs the country whilst dealing with Anne’s ill health and volatile temper. When a new servant arrives an outrageous rivalry to become the queen’s favourite ensues.

This is a film which is gorgeous to look at, is acted sublimely and is full of fascinating 18th century intrigue.

See it at Corrie and Sannox Village Hall on Sunday April 3 at 7.30pm. All are welcome, however, Corrie Film Club respectfully asks that you do a lateral flow test before attending.
