An Arran hotelier beat all comers to be crowned the winner of the popular TV show Four in a Bed.
The show really put Arran in the spotlight when Meg El Adm from Lamlash Bay Hotel took part in Channel 4’s competition which aired last week and is now available to watch on All4 catch up TV, after an initial glitch.
The competition features four sets of B&B owners as they travel round the country staying in each other’s places.
Scores are given for all aspects of their stay; from their hosts, facilities, cleanliness and breakfast which are rated out of 10 and the guests pay what they think the stay was worth.
The Lamlash Bay faced opposition from the The Trap Inn, Northumberland, The Newholme Hotel in Blackpool and the Portsonachan Hotel in Argyll, who withdrew from the competition before the end.
The opportunity arose when the show had a last minute drop out and the producers contacted the Lamlash Bay to see if it could take part.
The hotel was busy preparing to re-open after the second lockdown but, with the support of Meg’s husband and business partner Serge, staff and some very understanding guests, a plan was hatched and the crew arrived to start filming the following day.
Whilst Serge stayed behind to run the business, Meg was joined in the competition by long-term friend with Arran family ties Yvonne Kemp.
Meg revealed: ‘This felt like a wonderful opportunity after a challenging couple of years to show case the hard work we have put into the hotel.
‘It was also super exciting to be going on a road trip, staying in other hotels and taking part in activities. All things we had been missing for so long. It was a really great adventure.
‘Yes, the days were long and the filming took hours but the TV crew were great and we had so much fun and lots of laughs.’
Arran was the final visit of the week where the guests enjoyed a walk along Brodick Beach followed by a gin class at Arran Botanical Beach Hut.
The Arran scenery looked magnificent and the hotel has received lots of positive feedback from viewers of the show, although the direction in which some of the guests arrived at the Lamlash Bay did cause some confusion to those who know Arran.
The final episode was payment day when the winners were revealed as the Lamlash Bay with both remaining contestants paying in full for their stay on Arran leading to Meg and Yvonne picking up the Four in a Bed trophy which will shortly be on proud display at the hotel.
