Members of Whiting Bay jogscotlandarran running group took full advantage of the lighter nights to start their weekly run in daylight for the first time this year.

Meeting every Monday at 5.30pm, at either Sandbraes Park or the Coffee Pot, the group, run by Jean and Gordon McInnes, enjoy a varied programme of running routes and training. Sessions are free to anyone aged over 18 of all abilities.

The other jogscotland group on the island is Arran Pace Makers. It meets at Orimdale Pavilion, Brodick, at 5.30pm on a Wednesday. Run by Lorna Logan and Gordon McInnes, the group engage in longer runs and tougher hill sessions than the Monday group.

They are also planning training runs ahead of the Ormidale 10k on Sunday April 24, for anyone taking part in the event. This group is over 18s only and a small charge applies.

Last week the group met on Tuesday as winds gusting to more than 60mph were forecast during Storm Dudley. Lorna said: ‘Everyone’s safety is paramount as we all need to travel to the meeting point safely before we start.’
