Arran’s Food Journey is seeking Arran-based food and drink industry candidates to join a fact-finding journey to Slovenia and Croatia.

The tour, which is to depart in April, will include visits to experience food and drink, producers, suppliers – including vineyards, olive oil producers and markets in Brda, Slovenia and Istria, Croatia.

The two locations are significant as Slovenia is named as a 2021 European Region of Gastronomy and Istria is home to world-renowned gastronomy.

Participants will have the opportunity to meet local leaders and hospitality providers who have played significant parts in their region’s food and drink aims and agenda.

The aim of the journey is to ensure that Arran’s food and drink sector maximises its potential as an integral part of its tourism offering.

Participants will benefit from being inspired by the trip, while also receiving fresh new ideas for their business as well as establishing contacts to collaborate and build Arran’s food and drink sector.

The tour will be facilitated by Professor Terry Stevens, who is an international tourism consultant with a long-standing relationship with Arran’s tourist industry, and was the 2020 ambassador of Slovenia tourism.

The journey is heavily subsidised by the HIE Regional Food Grant and flights, accommodation, breakfast and most evening meals meals are included.

Participants will be expected provide their own travel insurance and to make a contribution as an indication of commitment which is estimated at £600.

Two fully-subsidised apprentice places for recent entrants to Arran’s food sector and who are under 30 years old will be provided as part of the subsidy.

The tour will leave Glasgow on Monday April 25, returning on Saturday April 30. Applicants need to apply before Friday February 4, and successful candidates will be notified by Friday February 11.
