Ayrshire and Arran Destination Alliance is to receive £22,500 as part of a the government’s Scotland Loves Local fund aimed at helping to restore local tourism.

The £1.5m fund is part of a Scotland Loves Local campaign which urges people to think, choose and spend local to help their communities recover from the impact of coronavirus and build a stronger future.

The recently formed Ayrshire and Arran Destination Alliance is a new destination management and marketing organisation for the region which seeks to drive a collective way forward for the tourism industry following the pandemic.

The organisation operates on a not-for-profit basis and the voluntary board is comprised of industry players including Alastair Dobson of Taste of Arran and chairwoman Linda Johnston of the Auchrannie Resort.

The £22,500 share of the fund will be used by the alliance for ‘the development of an Ayrshire and Arran online marketplace, delivery of a pre-Christmas social media campaign, development of the Ayrshire Local Development Trust and the delivery of a campaign harnessing local voices to create their local area.’

Community wealth minister Tom Arthur said: ‘The Scottish Government is supporting our communities to deliver renewed local prosperity. I hope these grants will help spur on many of the projects which are vital to unlocking the innovation and action which will make our towns and neighbourhoods stronger.

‘The fund provides 50 per cent match funding for projects between £5,000 and £25,000 and targets funding towards local economies that have been impacted most due to the pandemic, including those in areas with pre-existing inequality.

‘It reinforces our determination to support all our communities as they recover and will help strengthen the vital backing being provided through the Scotland Loves Local marketing campaign and gift card scheme.

‘These grants are part of Scottish Government measures to create a fairer, healthier, greener, inclusive and more sustainable economic recovery.’
