Shop Arran really came back with a bang last weekend after missing a year due to the pandemic.

Everyone taking part enjoyed a bumper weekend with retailers praising shoppers for turning out in mixed weather to shop locally and support local businesses.

All across Arran, shops offered special discounts, deals and bargains, in the annual Christmas shopping initiative which saw more than 26 shops and venues joining together to provide an island-wide shopping experience for customers.

Participating stores, most of them offering 10 per cent discounts, reported a brisk trading day with shoppers, mostly locals, purchasing festive necessities and niceties just for themselves.

And while larger stores, such as Arran Active, enjoyed a big increase in footfall, so did smaller retailers and venues, such as at the Crafts’ Fair at the Lochranza Centre, where artists and crafts people enjoyed a healthy interest in their products.

Chameleon Arran, the ladies boutique in Lamlash, posted a message of thanks on her social media page saying: ‘Just a thank you to all the fabulous customers who came to Chameleon over the Shop Arran weekend.

‘I have to say the majority of you when asked “is this a gift”, said it was for yourself! After the past 18 months who doesn’t want a treat – we had loads of laughs and the whole weekend was just great. Thank you, thank you, thank you!’

Janelle’s echoed the sentiment on her social media pages by saying: ‘Fantastic and successful Shop Arran weekend, a big thank you to everyone who travelled far and wide to support small businesses throughout Arran. It is very much appreciated.’

The Shop Arran event has been a favourite among Christmas shoppers since 2012 and it continues to attract both locals and visiting shoppers with the event now heralding the start of the festive season for many.
