With many of Arran’s other large events cancelled this year, the organisers of the annual Arran Open Studios (AOS) were more determined than ever to ensure that their event could go ahead with all of the necessary precautions in place.

Following intense discussions with committee members and the artists themselves, it has been decided that the event will take place this year from Friday August 13 to Monday August 16.

The AOS event provides visitors and aspiring artists an opportunity to visit local artists of all disciplines ranging from furniture making to printmaking, painting and sculpture to stained glass and much more in between.

The AOS brochures have now been printed and are in public spaces, hotels, tearooms and B&Bs across the island. The brochure is a must as it shows potential visitors the broad range of artistic disciplines included in this year’s event along with concise directions to find the various venues. It also features a village-by-village map which will allow visitors to plan their studios visits in advance and it will also help to find other studios of interest in the vicinity.

Visitors from mainland locations are encouraged to include ferry bookings in their planning as the ferry service has been much curtailed by Covid-19 and technical/mechanical issues. This means that planning ahead is essential. Anyone wishing to visit Arran for the Open Studios is strongly advised to book up their ferry now as we no longer have the luxury of just turning up and knowing we’ll get on one ferry or another. Even foot-passengers should make sure they can get across on the appointed days.

AOS organisers are looking forward to welcoming as many visitors as possible this year and further details can be found, along with a digital copy of the brochure, on the AOS website at or Facebook pages.
