The longest standing member of the Blackwaterfoot Bowls Club, Victor Iutz, was on hand to help celebrate the clubs 40th anniversary recently.

Taking place on Saturday September 19, the event was celebrated in a very low key manner with Victor receiving a box of Arran products in recognition of being the longest standing member.

Victor was a member of the founding group of people who paid £100 in 1980 to provide a fund for the establishment of a club in Blackwaterfoot. He still plays on every available occasion and is the only original member who still attends the club.

A spokesperson from Blackwaterfoot Bowls Club said: ‘The club has been operating under strict restrictions since the lockdown was lifted. This involves strict social distancing and having to book to play. This regrettably means that we cannot welcome visitors, as we always have in the past, and it is also is the reason for the very low key celebration.

‘We hope that next year a proper celebration can be held to mark the 40th anniversary of the bowling of the first jack.’
