Quarter finals on Saturday August 29, all of the games were close apart from the first which finished on the 15th green considering the difference in handicap Scott did well taking Iain to the 15th hole. Results: I Murchie beat S Campbell, I Bremner beat N. McIntyre, N Young beat Serge El Adm and P Cowan beat captain Stuart Campbell.

Semi finals on Saturday September 5. Both games were extremely close with many birdies on show complimenting the standard of Lamlash golf course. With never more than one hole in it at any time Iain Murchie eventually overcame Ian Bremner at the 17th when his drive found an unplayable lie in the rough.

Paul Cowan and Neil Young had a most interesting match play game at one stage there was three holes in the game, which was reduced to square following some outstanding birdies. Thirteenth and fourteenth changed hands to make the game all square and remained that way through 18 after both players had the chance of par 4s. The game ending at the first extra hole when Paul completed a par 4 after a long approach put and Neil narrowly missed a chip.

Whiting Bay Golf Club

Sunday September 6, Club Championship final. The 2020 season may have been curtailed but what a fine run we have had on big club days and once again we were blessed with fine weather both for players and spectators at the 2020 championship final.

Ryan Armstrong, playing in his first final won the first hole only to find himself two down to Jamie Macpherson after seven holes. Undaunted he fought his way back into it and a superb birdie at the 12th squared the match. The second round started with Ryan two down but once more he fought back to square the match on the 20th green. Further holes changed hands at the 22nd and 26th and once again the match was all square. After that however Jamie won the next three holes and a further win on the 34th green gave him the match by a four and two margin.

Well played to Ryan in his first final. It will surely not be his last and judging by his scoring record earlier in the season his day will surely come. But for 2020 it’s congratulations to Jamie Macpherson on winning his fourth WBGC championship.

Sunday September 6, The JC Reid Trophy. It’s congratulations to Dougie Graham who beat Neillie McKechnie by four and three to lift the JC Reid Trophy for the first time.

Sunday September 13, The Hamilton Salver. Wednesday September 16, Cancer Relief Stableford. Until further notice there will be no draws for partners and members should arrange their own groupings.
