Big Davy Ballantyne is on the fifth day of his Round Arran barrel challenge today (Friday).

For his latest fundraiser, as reported in last week’s Banner, Big Davy is walking the entire 70-mile Arran Coastal Way with a 50kg (8st) whisky barrel strapped to his back.

He is raising money and awareness for the Samaritans whose services are in huge demand during the coronavirus pandemic. He has already raised more than £2,2oo on his JustGiving appeal page and the total is climbing every day.

Davy, accompanied by photographer Fraser Aitchison, started at Kildonan on Monday and after a very difficult first day over the rocks and boulders at the Black Cave he picked up the pace the following day getting from Shannochie to Sliddery and has been pressing on well ever since. He is attempting to complete the challenge by next weekend.

Davy struggles to get the barrel over the rocks at the Black Cave.
