At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall,

However, rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free. To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic.

The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time.

We value our content and our journalists, so to get full access to all your local news updated 7-days-a-week – PLUS an e-edition of the Arran Banner – subscribe today for as little as 48 pence per week.

The exhibition at the Arran Library for the month of February is a varied range of works by amateur and professional artists who belong to the Arran Visual Arts (AVA) group who promote and develop art and artistic events on the island.

Founded in December 2001, AVA run arts and applied arts workshops throughout the year and they are also responsible for organising the popular AVA Summer Exhibition in Lochranza each year.

AVA has a membership of approximately 90 artists who regularly enjoy workshops, predominantly at the Brodick Castle Rangers Centre, hosted by tutors and artists from around the globe and who work in various mediums and disciplines.

Their main objectives are to develop education and cultural heritage by organising and facilitating events and activities to share knowledge, expertise and experience through demonstration workshops, summer schools and exhibitions. As co-founders of Art in Mind they also provide educational and therapeutic opportunities to island residents through the medium of art while continuing to improve and develop the quality of art resources on the island.

The AVA exhibition will continue until the end of the month and the artworks on display are available for purchase.
