A team of pupils from Arran’s primary schools took second place in the North Ayrshire Sports Hall Athletics event at the Portal, Irvine and will now be competing in the finals next week.
Representing Arran, the 22 pupils managed to hop, step and jump their way to success in their heat against eight other schools from across North Ayrshire and will be going for the gold on Thursday December 5.
The event involves the disciplines of relay running, chest throwing, speed bouncing, hurdles, vertical jump and long jump.
The pupils from Team Arran had two weeks of training at Arran High School with the North Ayrshire Sports Academy pupils, also known as NASA, and the Active Schools coordinator Lauren Gilbert. The team will also have a further two weeks of training prior to the final.
A spokeswoman for Team Arran said: ‘ Many thanks to KA Leisure who provided an energetic warm up, brilliant coaches and facilities, to ensure the team were prepared for activities ahead of them. Thanks to Bennetts Bus Services for their excellent service and, of course, the singing bus driver. We wish Team Arran the very best of luck in the final!’
The final will also take place at the Portal, Irvine next week and the winning team will receive the North Ayrshire Shield which they will hold for one year.
