A total of 12 adults and two children from Beach Buddies, Isle of Arran conducted a clean sweep of Lochranza during their beach clean last week.

The assembled group of volunteers cleaned from the head of the loch to Newton Point where several bags of rubbish were recovered, including a pair of curtains, a lost Geocache, the remains of a car seat and some unidentified man made wooden objects.

The group left the area from the head of the loch towards the youth hostel untouched as their colleagues at TAP Arran, in conjunction with Lochranza residents and the Marine Conservation Society, are conducting a beach clean and litter survey on the weekend of Friday September 20 to Monday September 23 and they requested an area was left so as not to impinge on their survey.

A spokesman for the Beach Buddies thanked all of the volunteers who joined them on the day and  sponsors Isle of Arran Ice Cream and The Parlour.

The next scheduled beach clean by the group will be on Saturday September 14 at Machrie. Volunteers are asked to meet at the golf course tea room at 5.30pm and everybody is welcome to attend. Participants are requested to bring gloves and to wear sensible footwear.
