Twelve Arran runners braved scorching conditions to take part in the North Ayrshire Athletic Club 10k in Saltcoats last Sunday.

Conditions could not have been worse for the runners with temperatures in the mid 20s for the race through the three towns which attracted more than 430 entrants.

It was the fifth year of the running festival, which also includes a family 2k event. The island runners were from the newly renamed jogscotlandarran group, which meets in Whiting Bay on the Monday, and the Brodick Arran Pace Makers group which meets on a Wednesday. There is also a beginners group on the island which meets in Brodick on a Tuesday.

One runner, who needed the assistance of paramedics, would like to say a big thank you to Jean to all the travelling runners for their kindness and help on the day.
