Southend were eager to maintain their unbeaten record in their third game of the season on Monday night when they faced Lamlash who were without their captain and playmaker Johnny Sloss, who was suspended.
The match was tight early in with both teams creating chances in the opposition box. On the half hour mark it was the visitors, Southend who broke the deadlock. Donald Park went on a great run before firing a low cross which David Heenan saved but Lewis Kennedy was on hand to fire in the rebound.
The tightly fought match continued with neither side making any further progress and by the half time whistle the score remained at 1-0.
Donald then doubled the lead early in the second half when his shot hit the inside of the post and into the back of the net. Southend were awarded a penalty soon after when Fraser Thomson’s tackle was deemed to be a dangerous one on Gregor Crichton. Ryan Armstrong stepped up and made no mistake from the spot.
The scoring was complete with five minutes to go when new signing Shane Henderson latched on to a corner with a neat finish on his left foot to make it 4-0. Referee Greg McCrae gave Ryan Armstrong the man of the match after another commanding display in the middle of the park.
The other scheduled fixture between Shiskine and Brodick was rearranged for Thursday night. The next fixtures in the Arran Dairies League will be on Monday June 17 when Northend take on Shiskine at the Ewe Camp and Southend play Brodick at Sandbraes.
