Some of Arran’s players of yesteryear will dust down their football boots to take part in the new Happy Spider Cup being staged for the first time today. (Saturday June 8)

Fittingly it will be staged annually in memory of Alan Johnston who was such an integral part of Arran football over the years. He died in July 2017 at the age of just 53.

The charity match is being held at Ormidale Park in Brodick, with a 4pm kick-off.

The match will consist of the current Arran AFC splitting into two teams, with each team having ‘more experienced’ players as guests to battle for the new cup.

There will also be a raffle to raise funds for ArCaS as very aptly chosen by Alan’s family. Organisers hope to see as many players and spectators along for a great day.
