Auchrannie Leisure Ltd have withdrawn their application for planning permission in principle for two new housing plots on Auchrannie Road.

It had been the forth time an application had been made for the site which is part of the Doctor’s Wood which contain historic trees some of which are up to 150 years old.

One objection to the plan stated: ‘The trees are of mixed species, among them scarce elms immune to Dutch elm disease. The bulk of them are large, mature species of great beauty, and presumably date from the time when Auchrannie itself was the downer house attached to the castle.’

SEPA also opposed the application due to the flooding risk and the West of Scotland Archeology Service wanted a survey of the site carried out before any work started as it has potential prehistoric significance.
