The residents of Springbank are rightly concerned that their quiet streets could be turned into a busy thoroughfare for construction traffic.
Has this really been thought out? That is just one of the questions now being asked by Arran Community Council who have now taken the voice of the residents to the powers that be.
They want to know from North Ayrshire Council if as full risk analysis has been carried out over the use of the narrow roads, lined with houses and cars, to transport heavy plant and equipment.
No one is denying there is an urgent need for the new council housing but the development work should not be to the detriment of the people already living nearby.
A relatively straight forward solution is also being offered to open up a existing right-of-way footpath and, despite already having been ruled out, really must now be reconsidered – even if only for the period of construction.
As the community council say the safety of the families already living in the area has to be paramount and alternative solutions must now need to be considered.
We hope the council is listening.
