What a fantastic start to the summer season Arran has had.
The island was buzzing for the whole two weeks of the school holidays and that was before the arrival of the hottest Easter weekend on record bringing with it hoards more visitors.
Bars, cafes, restaurants have been packed – with beer gardens in particuar doing a roaring trade and the queues outside The Parlour’s new ice cream hatch spoke for themselves as did those with cones pouring out of The Boathouse – while the Co-op could not pack the ice cream freezers quick enough.
It was not only great to see some early summer sunshine, which just lifts everyone’s mood, and hopefully got the tourist trade off to the smashing summer start.
Hitting the headlines
Good to see Arran too hitting the national headlines. Affordable housing may not be everyone’s first choice when writing about Arran – but we should be grateful to the social conscience of the Guardian Scotland editor to be willing to commission a piece on such an important issue to the island which the writer, and former resident, James McEnaney is so familiar with.
The wider the affordable message can be sent out from Arran the better.
