Brodick pupils are all heart

Brodick Primary School have taken health to heart by promoting the importance of cardiovascular health and raising £743 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Fundraising on behalf of the charity P6 and P7 pupils from the school enthusiastically took part in the challenge which their teacher Mrs Anne Watts.

As part of the challenge the class had to learn how to play dodgeball and they worked hard to learn the rules, develop strategies and hone their skills. It was an opportunity for them to improve their own cardiovascular fitness and a chance to make a real contribution to the work of the BHF.

Alongside their training regime each pupil had to secure sponsorship from their family, neighbours and friends. All of their hard work culminated in a presentation to both parents and fellow pupils which was informative and entertaining. Each pupil contributed information as to the dangers of cardiovascular disease, stressing the importance of good heart health and the vital work of the BHF.

The children then entertained the audience with an actual dodgeball session eliciting many ‘oohs’ and  ‘aahs’ from the spectators. They also invited spectators to join the fun and were delighted when mums and dads stepped up to play.

Mrs Watts speaking about the children’s enthusiasm for the challenge said: ‘ I am pleasantly amazed by their commitment and their positive response to the challenge.  Their hard work really paid off and the class managed to raise a whopping £743.

‘ The class and I would like to say a huge thank you to all those who supported the children and gave so generously to such a worthy cause,’ she added.
