With all the turmoil on the ferries a friend of the travelling public has slipped back almost unnoticed.

Yes the CalMac mascot is back at his post on the ramp of the new Brodick ferry terminal. However, his return is not without controversy for while the Banner knows him as Wee Davie, it seems that his real name is Wee Alex and it has been since he first made his appearance 12 years ago.

The Banner went in search of Wee Davie/Alex after 11-year-old Lucy Gemmell from Kilmarnock reported him missing after he was moved from his post at the old linkspan.

When we reported the story in July we were told by CalMac that the mascot had gone for his ‘annual refit’. However, we are pleased to report he is now back at his post. We understand he has been put in charge of resolving the ferry crisis.

Wee Davie/Alex can once again be seen watching over cars embarking and disembarking from the ferry.
