Saturday July 28, WBGC Ladies Open, 15 hole Stableford. At 8am it was all in doubt – there was a river running down the 18th and greens were flooded but thankfully by 9am it had started to dry out and it was game on.

Thanks to everyone who came to play despite the inauspicious weather and hope to see you again next year. Thanks to Stewart and  James for all their hard work, resulting in the superb condition of the course, to John our Jack of all trades behind the bar with his team of  Nancy, Louise, Jack and Rachel; nothing is ever too much trouble, to Mary in the starters box for being the friendly welcoming face of the club and to Wolfi our captain for his support.

We are also grateful to Christine and Doug who painted the boards, Alan and David for setting out the course and the Shiskine ladies for bringing it all in!  Thanks also to Howard for the plants and Jenni for presenting the prizes. A huge thank you to everyone, businesses and individuals too numerous to mention, but you know who you are, who supported the event, donated prizes and sponsored holes.  We had a wonderful display of prizes and a grand raffle.

Last but not least thanks to the ladies who helped organise the event. We are a small, but friendly, ladies section and we really appreciate the support of country members, visitors and other island lady golfers.

The Qualifying round took place on Friday August 3, at 1pm.  Donald Currie missed out by one stroke and played some really good golf. The two Qualifiers were Rory Currie and Stanley Tod, a repeat of last year.

After 12 holes the game was all-square but going up the 13th, Rory’s drive landed in the rough on the right hand side and his second shot went out of bounds over the fence, the thick rough caught his club and his 5th shot landed in more rough.  Stanley’s ball landed beyond the green but he pitched and putted for a 6.  Winning the match and Championship. This exciting match was played with a good following and in a great spirit.  Very many thanks to Willie Kelso for refereeing and presenting the trophies.
