We have said it before and we will say it again. The community spirit that exists on Arran is quite remarkable.

The last few weeks have shown the incredible work that bands of volunteers do across the island to stage gala days, family events and shows which keep locals amused and keep holidaymakers coming back for more.

I myself have friends on holiday at the moment with their three children – aged from six to 15 – and they have been more than impressed with the variety of activities which have been available filling up their days with ease.

They have also remarked how friendly and welcoming everyone has been during their stay and have already vowed to be back next year.

There is no doubt that the island is very busy and yes, the weather has helped this year. But it is gratifying to hear from visitors that they are also impressed by what is on offer and plan to to come back for more.

So hats off to the volunteers, you know who you are. And maybe, if you enjoyed visiting an event this year, it is worth getting yourself more involved next year.
