Sub-heading: Inaugural Arran Rock ‘n Blues Festival
A 12 hour music marathon will take place in Brodick next month at the inaugural Arran Rock ‘n Blues Festival.
The music fest is to be held in Brodick Hall on Saturday July 21 from 12 noon to 12 midnight and will feature six stunning rock and blues bands.
Organisers NTM Promotions and The Pierhead Tavern are bringing the festival together for the first time which they hope to grow in the coming years.
Opening the day will be a new band Raising Bail who play originals and covers such as John Meyer, ZZ Top, Robert Plant, Thin Lizzie, Tom Petty, Neil Young & Chris Isaak.
Following them are the Blues Mama a Glasgow based blues band covering classics from Rory Gallagher, Eta James, Chicken Shack, Frankie Miller and more.
Storm Warning are lauded by the UK blues press as one of the classiest contemporary blues bands in the UK, playing superbly crafted original blues rock songs and breathing new life into blues standards. This year the band were voted best band at The British Rock & Blues Festival following their successful album Take Cover.
Dr Feelguid, Scotland’s premier Dr Feelgood tribute band who have the tag line ‘we came we saw we copied!’ If you enjoyed the original Dr Feelgood you will enjoy these guys playing from their repertoire and more of that era.
The George Lindsay Band are lead by the fiery guitar and vocals of George Lindsay. The band play the blues, all the blues, from rocking to funky to country and everything in between.
Headlining will be The Sensational Alex Harvey Experience. The idea came about when the band were asked to headline SAHBROCK VI in 2013 and to do a SAHB tribute and went down a storm. So much so, by popular demand, they decided to keep this project going as it was both fun to perform with all the theatrics and the songs, but also because the die-hard fans wanted to hear SAHB all over again. They are highly recommended, and it has been said that the boys are one of the best live bands in the circuit.
PHT owner Jane Howe, who has been instrumental in reviving the rock and blues music scene on Arran, said: ‘We are hoping that this year will be a great success and the beginning of a revolution of bringing music back to Arran as it was in the ‘70’s with Thin Lizzy, Slade, Nazareth and of course The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. Next year maybe a two-day outdoor festival, anyone?’
Tickets are on sale online through Tickets Scotland and from The Big Co-op in Brodick and The Pierhead Tavern in Lamlash, where several of the bands have played in the past. Tickets cost £15 for adults and £5 for under 14s.
