Whiting Bay mum Kirsty Park will be donning her apron and baking to raise money for the forces charity which supports her veteran dad.

Kirsty is taking part in Help for Heroes’ Bake for Heroes initiative by holding a baking sale on Tuesday June 26, at Whiting Bay Hall from 11am to 1pm.

Kirsty, mum to two year old son Thorin and five-month-old Freyja, said: ‘I decided to host this bake sale because my dad Andrew, a former 17/21st Lancer in the Army, is a beneficiary of Help for Heroes and a member of their Band of Brothers beneficiary support network, so I wanted to help and give something back.

‘I also wanted to take the opportunity to reach out to any veterans that might live on the island in case they are isolated. I’ll be putting out Help for Heroes information on the day, in case it could help someone beyond the bake sale.

‘The local Co-op has donated £50 worth of home baking already, and I’ve already had a lot of offers from locals to provide tablet and cakes. It’s going to be fantastic, I’m so excited about it. It would be great to see people coming along to have a home-made cake or even just popping in to find out how Help for Heroes supports wounded, injured, and sick veterans and family members.

‘If you’re not able to make it but still want to get involved, you can donate by contacting me on Facebook. I am happy to take donations and put them in the collection box leading up to the day if people would like to do that.’

Ailsa Alcock, Help for Heroes regional fundraising manager for Scotland, said: ‘We are extremely grateful to Kirsty for fundraising to help our wounded, injured, and sick veterans. We are always touched when any of our beneficiaries’ families help raise funds, it makes it so much more personal. I hope the people of Arran will support her event and enjoy some delicious home-made baking, while also helping a good cause.’
