For a small island there can be no doubt that Arran punches above its weight.
This week no fewer than three groups proved the are winners all the way – and for a diverse range of achievements.
Firstly we must congratulate the young sports coaches at Arran High School who impressed Provost Ian Clarkson so much when he visited the Active Schools project last month, he gave them the top award at the North Ayrshire wide Civic Pride Awards.
The Arran Youth Foundations has also been back among the awards this time for their dedicated work around mental health. The AYF do a great job organising events and activities for youngsters on the island, but this perhaps shows there is much more to the organisation than first meets the eye.
Then there is VisitArran. They have won so many accolades that there could easily be a complacency that if they turn up they will win, but that could not be further from the truth. For as other destination organisations get their house in order VisitArran have to try ever harder every year to get people to come here – and they are doing a fine job.
So a good week then for Arran and, oh, the ferry terminal is open. Hooray!
