Incredibly popular and fun Zumba fitness dancing has returned to Arran with the reintroduction of classes taking place in Brodick Hall on a Wednesday evening.

In addition to the Zumba dancing, and in a first for the west of Scotland, Just Jhoom, a  blend of classical Bollywood dance, Bhangra, yoga and mindfulness, is also now being introduced and is available on Arran from Dance Fitness with Mhairi.

Mhairi Tindall, who has over six years experience delivering classes mainly in Ayr and Prestwick, but is regularly on Arran, has training in a variety of dance disciplines that can suit participants of every age and fitness level.

Having originally trained as a Zumba instructor and then specialising in Zumba Kids and Zumba Gold she then became a Fitsteps instructor. Fitsteps is a combination of dance fitness crossed with Strictly Come Dancing which is the brain child of ex-Strictly stars Natalie Lowe and Ian Waite.

Mhairi’s most recent training though, is the dance discipline that is sure to capture the interest of fitness fans who enjoy trying something new. Just Jhoom brings together aerobics, mindful movement and Bollywood dancing that draws on a range of styles from classical Indian dancing to Bhangra to create a unique dance fitness experience that is said to nourishes both body and soul. It is the is the brainchild of classically-trained Indian dancer, Shalini Bhalla who has collaborated with dance, fitness and yoga professionals to create training programmes that allow instructors to provide fun and dynamic fitness sessions. Just Jhoom is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

One of the current classes on offer, Zumba Gold is perfect for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the moves at a lower intensity and with little or no impact. It is also perfect for beginners, those who are starting their path to fitness and for those who just prefer to exercise at a gentler pace.

Mhairi said: ‘I started the classes on September 20 in Brodick Hall and although there were small numbers to start, they have continued to grow, and I have been delighted by the support and enthusiasm of the participants.’

Classes run on Wednesdays with the Zumba Gold taking place from 4pm and the Just Jhoom starting at 5.50pm. Each class costs £5 or £8 for both with no ongoing commitment. There is no need to book, just visit Brodick Hall, wear trainers and comfortable clothing and take a small bottle of water.  Contact Mhairi on 07557870504 or visit www.mhairitindall.com
