Arran open water swimmers met for a final practice at Lamlash last week ahead of the Lamlash Splash which takes place today (Saturday).
The 1.3 mile swim starts at 11.30am from the Holy Isle pontoon and the fastest swimmers can be expected back at Lamlash Pier by noon.
The event is limited to 40 places and there are 11 locals taking part this year: Mary Bowers, Ann Hart, Paul Hewie, Rory Hunter, Zabdi Keen, Georgina Maclean, Mike Mellor, Eric Milton, Heather Raeside, Glen Sloss and Jo Totty. Glen might have stiff competition for first local home with Rory participating this year!
Although a number of the swimmers consider the splash as a race, for many, just completing the swim is a challenge in itself.
The RNLI, Arran Sailing Club and kayakers will all be on the water supporting the swimmers on the day.
The Heather Queen Alyssa McGarrie will present the Ali Bodie Plate once all the swimmers are safely back.
Hopefully the weather and sea conditions will be as good as last year with the opportunity for spectators to view this exciting challenge from Lamlash Pier.
