The Sannox Cricket Club’s annual fun day was a delightful mixture of Star Wars characters, Smurfs, cowboys and bees in a less than delightful mixture of weathers – ranging from bright sunlight to torrential downpours.

Undeterred by the occasional monsoon conditions, seven teams entered the Ormidale Park event last Saturday, which is known for its cricketing fun, tombola stall, lively music, burgers and a beer tent along with humorous commentary from Rich E Beno.

The annual fundraiser for the cricket club places the emphasis on having fun and encourages outlandish fancy dress and a relaxed  attitude to rules and regulations. Defending their title, and dressing up for the first time in two years, the fathers, sons and daughters team making up the Super Heroes won again for the third year in a row, earning themselves the coveted golden ball award. Arran team, the Smurfs, won the Sannox Cricket Club’s plate final and were pressented with a plate which was specially commissioned by the club from potter Simon Thorborn. Simon also took part and was one of the Borderline Functioning team.

Organiser Eric Dunn thanked all of the teams for an afternoon of good cricket, hilarity and for all of the supporters who braved the weather to attend the event. He also thanked Trevor Helliwell for providing the fitting music, Tim Pomeroy for his service on the field and at the burger stall along with umpire Chris Marriott and scorer Martin McCartny.
