Wednesday August 30, Summer Trophy round 15, 23 played. Course conditions were excellent but the evening players had a plague of midges to contend with. CSS stayed at 63 and Stan Rainey bettered that by one to win from a following pack on 63.

1 Stan Rainey 11, 62, 2 Gus Macleod 12, 63 ACB, 3 John Pennycott 13, 63 ACB, 4 Peter Towndrow 12, 63. Danny Head had the lowest scratch score of 67. Danny was initially reported as taking second place on 63 but a check of the handicap records showed that a recent away score at Lamlash, resulting in a one stroke reduction of handicap, had not come through the system. Magic twos Nicol Auld @14th and Frazer Barr @17th.

Saturday September 2, Island Championship. The final of the Island Championship was played in Shiskine between Ann May and Susan Butchard, both members of Brodick, and the best two lady golfers on the island.

The weather was dry and sunny with a testing wind. Susan took an early lead winning the first two holes but as they settled into their game they won alternate holes until Ann won 9 and 10 to square the match. Then they won alternate holes again until the match was all square on the 18th tee. Susan narrowly missed her putt for a three but Ann sunk hers to win the match one up.

Congratulations to Ann, a new name on the trophy which Susan has won three times before. It was a delight for all the spectators to watch such good golf played in such good spirit.

Fixture: Saturday September 16, Cir Mhor at 12.30pm at Whiting Bay.

Arran Golfers’ Association

As you all know due to the terrible weather we had last Sunday the Autumn Handicap match was cancelled, writes AGA secretary Willie McNally.

Corrie held a meeting on Monday night and have agreed to hold it on Sunday September 10. The starter’s sheet timings remain the same, and late entries will be accepted, but will have to slot in where there is a space.  It is £5 entry and £2 sweep. If you want to play get in touch with Corrie Golf Club to book a time.
