The Arran Coastal Rowing Club (ACRC) is excited to be hosting its first rowing regatta for skiffs – rowing boats for four rowers and a cox – on Saturday June 24 at Lamlash Pier.

Although ACRC is only in its second season, last year it competed in three regattas at Troon, Largs and was the proud winner of the Prestwick regatta.

This year ACRC is going a step further. Besides taking part in several regattas on the mainland, five Firth of Clyde coastal rowing clubs have been invited to come over to compete in Arran’s first coastal rowing regatta. Crews from Largs, Troon, Prestwick, Girvan and Carrick will race against the Arran skiff in eight different races over a 1.5 kilometre course.

The start line will be on the far side of the yacht moorings and from there the skiffs will travel north, do two port turns and come back along the shore to the finish line directly in front of the yacht club. The home straight will be easily visible from Shore Road and from the pier.

Weather permitting the races will be held at half hour intervals between 11am and 4pm, with an hour’s lunch break at around 1pm.

Everyone is welcome along on the day to watch and cheer on the Arran skiff as they battle it out against the five invited mainland clubs.
