An under-strength Arran side travelled to Oban on Saturday with only 16 players, but their fighting spirit wasn’t enough to overcome their opponents.

The Oban forwards looked to average 20 stone a man with the backs built in proportion and they knew how to play rugby.

Jack Barbour had travelled down from Stirling and Addie (aged 51) had made yet another of his farewell appearances in an attempt to help Arran out and the team’s  sincere thanks went to them. All, however, was to be in vain.

The Oban backs were so powerful that even when tackled they still made five yards. They scored two tries, one converted, in the first half against two penalties from Lachlan Jones. Half time 12–6 to Oban.
