With her vast experience in match play, Fiona Crawford of Lochranza was victorious in the final of the Arran Ladies Golf Union (ALGU) island championship last week.
Played at Shiskine in beautiful weather over a course in excellent condition, the finalists were Fiona and Ellie Jones and the standard of golf was outstanding.
The better ball score was 73, the ladies therefore playing to a handicap of six.
Ellie was in cruise control from the start chipping in twice from well off the green for a three and putting beautifully.
By the seventh hole she was four up. Lesser players would have given up playing against someone who was in total control but Fiona’s vast experience at match play came to the fore as she hung on, taking control over the back nine bringing the match back to all square by the 17th hole.
After such an exciting match nerves prevailed a little at the 18th and the hole was halved in fives sending the ladies up the 19th.
This hole was played stroke for stroke with Ellie uncharacteristically missing a putt to give Fiona the match.
Well-done ladies on a fantastically exiting game to watch.
