A sundial gifted to Sir Kenneth Calman on his retiral has been unveiled at Brodick Castle.

Sir Kenneth was given the gift to mark his departure as chairman of the National Trust for Scotland earlier this year after five years at the helm.
However, he decided than rather than have it in ‘his small garden’ at the house he has in Brodick he would prefer it to be sited in the castle grounds.
And it was unveiled on Tuesday in front of the National Trust for Scotland board and trustees during their visit to the castle.

Karen to create an ice age sculpture of Arran

20_b45artist02A visual artist is creating a model for a major art work which will be on display at Brodick Castle next summer.

The sculpture will depict Arran as it was in the ice age and is throwing up some huge challenges for Karen Rann, who is an artist in residence with the National Trust for Scotland, currently working on Arran.

With a model of her work due to go on display, she is hard at work in her workshop within the castle grounds putting the concept into the form of a model.
