Sixteen-year-old Arran runner Nicky Emsley was the first local home in this year’s Ormidale 10k, beating his personal best by one-minute and also beating his father’s best by over a minute.
Nicky’s father, Paul, is his coach as well as the organiser of the 10k event, which attracted 42 runners from as far afield as Aberdeen and Stranraer on Sunday.
Nicky, whose mother Jan was also in the race, was delighted with his time of 37 minutes, two seconds and said it felt good to beat his father’s time.
He added: ‘I always hope to beat him and my sister, Jennifer, but it can be tight sometimes.’
Nicky is a member of the successful Arran Runners team.
The teenager finished fifth overall, four minutes behind Girvan AAC’s Kerry Wilson who led from the start. Second and third respectively were Irvine pairing George Irving and Billy Richardson.
