Staff at the Brodick Co-op store kicked off a 90 day fundraiser for the RNLI on Friday by wearing their wellies to work to raise funds for the lifeboat charity.
Staff and customers from the 440 food stores across the Co-operative network in Scotland are aiming to raise £90,000 in 90 days for the charity.
In Brodick on Friday volunteers from the Arran lifeboat station had gathered to help collect cash for the fund while staff paraded around in wellies and lifejackets.
John McNeill, the co-operatives regional operations director, said: ‘The RNLI provides an invaluable service and is a charity close to the heart of many communities the Co-operative serves.
‘Our big-hearted staff, supported by our ever generous customers, will go all out to raise as much money as they can for such a deserving charity.’
The money will be used to offset the costs of three particularly important projects; three new small inflatable Y lifeboats for use on all-weather lifeboats, supporting the annual cost of training 59 volunteer lifeboat crews like the one on Arran and the cost of essential maintenance for lifeboat crew jackets.
Ross Mackay, fundraising manager for the RNLI, said: ‘We are delighted to be working with the Co-op, who like the RNLI, are a large organisation with a community focus.
‘Their staff have an infectious enthusiasm and like our volunteers are extremely charitable.
‘I’d like to thank everyone on Arran for their support and commitment to the RNLI’s lifesaving service.’
