Jamie Murchie of Lamlash has been appointed the new Active Schools Co-ordinator for the seven Arran primary schools and the high school. He takes over from Ann Hart who retired last November.
Twenty-three-year old Jamie left Arran High in 2004 and took a three-year course in Sports and Physical Activity at Jordanhill, Strathclyde. He followed this with a spell of post-graduate teaching at the West of Scotland University followed by supply teaching.
He describes his position as being a link between schools and out-of-school sports activities. Jamie is delighted to be back working on Arran and said: ‘I still know many of the teachers from my days at the high school. By visiting the schools I hope to get to meet the youngsters and also encourage sports activities outside school such as football, hockey and badminton in the community.’
