The recent cold snap and unusually long spell of wintry weather on Arran was inconvenient for many, but it did give some wonderful views of the island under a blanket of snow.
It snowed heavily on Sunday December 20 and everyone expected that it would turn to messy slush within a few days. But the sub-zero temperatures persisted for three weeks, and so did the snow. Now all but the higher ground is clear, but Goatfell still looks alpine with a covering of crisp white snow.
