Arran drivers will soon be able to get through Ardrossan with less of a hold-up at the Glasgow Street traffic lights
The taxi rank before the lights is being moved to the opposite side of the road to make three lanes with a filter turning left.
This action will help drivers coming off the CalMac ferry to disperse away from the pier area more quickly and smoothly. By moving the rank, North Ayrshire Council will be able to create an extra lane for traffic turning left at the traffic lights, which most Arran drivers do in order to get to the Ardrossan by-pass.
A meeting of the licensing committee of NAC on Tuesday agreed to implement this traffic order.
Ronnie Small, head of infrastructure and design services, said: ‘The works associated with this project include widening Harbour Street to create three lanes of traffic northbound on the approach to the Glasgow Street traffic signals. This scheme is due to be implemented prior to the end of March 2010.’
