Former Brodick postmistress Janice Small has just completed a marathon cycle ride in aid of charity. She has already done the fund-raising bike ride from Kolkata to Kalimpong for Dr Graham’s Homes and has now done the trip from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
Janice said: ‘Last month I cycled, on my own, from Lands End to John O’Groats carrying all my worldly goods in two panniers.
‘I had a wonderful trip and wouldn’t have missed one moment of it. I cycled 981 miles over 18 days and had no punctures.
‘My chain came of twice but that was quickly sorted. I met wonderful people, saw wonderful scenery and had excellent weather. I cycled the whole way - even over Shap summit, which was one of the highlights of my journey. I managed 50 to 60 miles per day and had my B&B already booked.
‘Family and friends cycled part of the way in Scotland and some offered excellent B&B for the night. I collected over £400 for Dr Graham’s Homes, West Bengal and thank every one, from the road sweeper in England who gave me £1, to a landlady who waived her B&B charges.
‘These inspiring moments kept me going. I am returning to India next February cycling once again from Kolkata to Kalimpong in aid of Dr Graham’s Homes. If you care to support me donations can be handed in to Brodick Post Office.
