A simple make-up mirror may have saved a stranded climber stuck on Holy Isle on Monday.
The climber, a 21-year-old medical student from Glasgow, was descending from the 1,000ft summit of Mullach Mor on Monday afternoon when she slipped and became stuck on scree above St Molaise’s Cave.
Being on her own, she realised that she was trapped and used a make-up mirror from her bag to signal using the sun.
The flashing from the woman’s mirror was seen by another walker who called 999 to alert the emergency services. A Sea King helicopter from HMS Gannet in Prestwick was scrambled and on the scene within minutes.
A Coastguard spokeswoman said: ‘The Sea King executed an airlift from the hillside and transferred the woman to waiting coastguards.
‘She was taken to Arran War Memorial Hospital and found to be only suffering from cuts and bruises and slight shock.’
