Bumper year for Save the Children branch
Published:  05 June, 2009

The Arran branch of Save the Children raised the magnificent sum of £9,687 last year, it was reported at their AGM recently.

Chairman Kath Turner welcomed all present and in her report expressed her gratitude to her ‘hard working’ committee, which had been a great support during her year as chair.

‘It has been a very successful year once again,’ she said, ‘but our efforts must continue as the poverty in our own country and in the disaster areas abroad require our constant support.’

A full programme of events is being organised for the coming year and the branch are hoping for another successful year.

Following the business part of the proceedings, Kath introduced two guests, Elsie Paton coordinator of the West of Scotland Support Group and Nicola Breem, community fundraising executive.

In a brief address Nicola reminded the group of the presence of Save the Children in most disaster areas in the world like Kenya, Sri Lanka and Burma to name but a few.

She said it is one of the foremost agencies working to relieve the plight of children.

She also outlined the problems in Scotland where 250,000 children still live in poverty.

Nicola stressed the necessity of maintaining fundraising efforts and praised the Arran branch for its variety of events and outstanding contributions.

Elsie and Nicola expressed their appreciation at being invited to attend the meeting and said they look forward to returning in future.

Kath brought the meeting to a close by thanking the guests for coming and the committee and friends for their continuing support.
