Models strut their stuff at Lochranza
Published:  05 June, 2009

The Isle of Arran’s finest catwalk models strutted their stuff down a purpose built runway in Lochranza and Catacol Village Hall last Tuesday night, showcasing some of the latest designs from the Old Byre Showroom in Machrie.

‘The idea behind the show was to demonstrate the new, modern collections that we sell, as well as the variety of products that we have in the shops,’ said Lorna Mansfield of the Old Byre Showroom. ‘We had clothes for all ages and styles ranging from well-known makes like Barbour to knitwear and leisurewear. It was a great night.’

Kate Hartley, chairman of Lochranza and Catacol Village Hall, said: ‘It really was a fantastic night. The effort that went into organising it was immense but it was just fantastic to see so many people there from all over the island.’

The night began with local youngsters Archie and Nicol, who at just six and seven years old, have graduated at a young age in to the world of fashion.

The crowd was impressed with their style as they showcased lovely little Pirate Pocket sweatshirts and matching swords.

Megan in a daisy fur jackets and hats with an Aran teddy each, before Abbie appeared in an AC stripe polo and navy hoody.

Lorna had chosen a fantastic soundtrack to the night, which fitted every style perfectly.

After more children’s wear came the ladies and gents, modelling some of the great clothes that are available from the Old Byre.

Fiona Crawford, Marion Gentleman and Jane Miller wore Alice Collins navy shots with a Tulchan sweater, keyhole stripe t-shirt and Peter Scott merino sweater while carrying leather handbags - and for ladies of a certain age there was a chic leather bus-pass holder.

The show continued with more beautiful clothes that included long wool coats, Alpaca cardigans, trousers, handbags and golf outfits.

Archie Cummings, Ian Holmes and Terry Crawley were on next with the gents wear which included gorgeous sweaters in angora and lambs wool with matching wallets and steering wheel covers!

The big surprise of the night however came at the end when the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ gentlemen stripped off to their underwear in an impromptu Full Monty style striptease.

‘I’ve never laughed so much in my life,’ said one audience member. ‘My sides are splitting from laughing so much,’ said another. ‘What a fantastic way to end an absolutely fabulous night,’ said another.

Lorna Mansfield worked incredibly hard to make this event a success and her hard work certainly shone through.

She would like to thank all of her staff for their efforts in helping put the show together.

As a result of the fashion show nearly £1,000 has been raised for hall funds and the profile of the Old Byre showroom has been increased throughout the island.
